About

From a Delhi computer lab
to a quieter kind of scale

I have spent my working life on two things: getting systems to work, and getting people to work well inside them. Marketing turned out to be where both of those matter most.

The long version

  1. Delhi, and a computer that would not let go

I was born and raised in New Delhi, and I fell for computers early. Not the way you are supposed to say it on a website, but properly: the kind of interest that eats weekends and makes you take things apart to see why they work.

That never really turned into a hobby. It turned into the way I think. Long before I knew what a conversion rate was, I was already the person who wanted to know what the machine was actually doing underneath, and why it behaved differently when you changed one thing.

  2. In business at nineteen

I started my own business at nineteen. That is young by most standards, and it came with everything you would expect: no cushion, no network to fall back on, and a very short feedback loop between a bad decision and its consequences.

It was also the best training available. When you are nineteen and running something, nobody explains the unit economics to you. You work them out because you have to, usually the expensive way. I still run numbers the way I learned to then, which is to assume I am wrong until the arithmetic says otherwise.

  3. Three thousand people, and what that teaches you

Over the years that followed I employed and trained more than 3,000 people across BPO, KPO and RPO operations. Recruiting them, training them, building the processes they worked inside, and being answerable when those processes failed.

Running an operation at that headcount changes how you see marketing. You stop believing in clever one-off tactics, because nothing that depends on one clever person survives contact with scale. What survives is a system: something documented, teachable, measurable, and boring enough to run on a Tuesday when everyone is tired.

It also teaches you to be honest quickly. When 3,000 people depend on the process working, you learn to say a thing is broken the day you notice, not the week you have a fix ready. I have never found a reason to run client work differently.

  4. Then I moved to Mayapur

I now live and work from Mayapur, in West Bengal. It is a long way from Delhi in every sense, and the move was deliberate.

Working from here has made me a better consultant, not a less available one. There is less noise, fewer meetings that exist to justify other meetings, and a great deal more time to think properly about a client's problem before opening a spreadsheet. My clients are spread across time zones anyway. What they need is someone who has actually thought about their business, not someone sitting in the same postcode.

I also keep a spiritual practice, and I keep it separate from this work. If that side of things interests you, it lives at aniruddhadasa.com. I mention it here only because I would rather be a whole person on my own website than a list of services.

How I actually work

  • Systems beat heroics

Anything that only works because one talented person is paying attention will break the moment they look away. I build the boring, documented version instead.

  • Say it the day you see it

Running large teams teaches you that bad news does not improve with age. If something is not working, you will hear it from me before you have to ask.

  • Arithmetic over opinion

I would rather show you the maths and be argued out of it than be persuasive about something I have not checked.

  • Own your own accounts

Your ad accounts, your data, your dashboards, under your logins. I have seen too many businesses held hostage by an agency that owned the keys.

The other half of the picture

Alongside this work I keep a spiritual practice, based here in Mayapur. It is deliberately kept apart from my consulting, but it is not a secret, and it shapes how I prefer to work: plainly, patiently, and without overselling.
